She born in Dallas Texas 94yrs ago on 4/25/1929 to James Collier Jr. and Jessie Farrow. Shortly after birth, her mother relocated to Denver Co. She spent the early parts of her childhood working in the family owned, Black, hardware store located in the five points area. That is where she developed her tenacity and convictions about religion, life and family, along with being a pretty good handywoman. It was these traits that enabled her to live life to it's fullest, demanding the best from herself, and everyone around her! It didn't take long for anyone she liked to learn that they were indoctrinated into her large family. She lived life on her terms and made sure that those around her came along for the ride too. It was an awesome ride. Parties, cruises, reunions, b-b-ques. Of course a part of the ride included advise - directions - instructions - orders and lots of love.
Before attending Tuskegee University, she was a staunch advocate for the betterment of racial inequality, women's rights and anything else she felt needed to be addressed. She was not perfect. But she was, without a doubt, the best teacher of life we could have ever had. She embodied the value that a good education is, and always will be needed to achieve your goals and live your best life. She led by example with her own life when she retired as the manager of the Air Force finance center payroll department and started her own in home nail business that lasted until she started her own travel agency and opened the world of international travel to thousands of black families that never would have had the experience of global travel if she hadn't taught them that they could!
"We never know who love is going to put in our lives - and how that love will grow in our lives - and how that will never go from our lives". She lived a full life, and fought the good fight. Using her tenacity, she was overwhelmingly successful at being the wonderful person that touched so many lives. During her 94yrs Mary buried her husband Thomas Edmonson, her son Dempsey Pugh Jr. and daughter Opalanga Pugh. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Lloyd Pugh Sr., numerous grand and great grandkids along with all the countless others that she shared so much love with.
