Mary Ellen Belmear

Mary Ellen Belmear, 92, died April 18, 2019 in Denver Colorado. She was born May 22, 1926, in Macleay, Oregon, to Allen George (Peck) Caughey and Belle Elizabeth (Polly) Tinker. She married Gerald Grant Belmear October 2, 1948. They lived in Durango for several years until they moved to Denver. After moving to Denver, Mary Ellen worked for the telephone company, and later for the State of Colorado in the Revenue Department and the Wildlife Division. When she was 55, she enrolled in college and graduated at age 59 with a bachelor's degree. After working in a preschool for a few years, she started a day care in her home. She was a gifted teacher and loved children. She worked tirelessly to demonstrate her love to her family and her devotion to her church.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Leah Rene' Maughan, grandson, Brian Jacob Stone, and son-in-law, Karl Marion Cardon. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Gerald Grant Belmear; four daughters, Verna Jo Cardon of Denver, Cheryl Leavitt of Annabella, Utah, Laurie Stone of Rigby, Idaho, and Patricia Lynn Smith of Manassa, Colorado; and one brother, Robert Allen Caughey of Lakewood, Colorado. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held in her honor April 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Ward building at 838 Grant St., Denver, CO. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral services.
