Mary Ann Litzau
When the sun set January 22, there was less courage, determination, kindness, generosity and concern in this world. That day, at peace, and not afraid, Mary Ann took the next step on her journey. Al, Mark, Andrea, Pat, brother Sam and favorite sister and best friend Virginia were with her to wish her Godspeed on the journey. She no doubt heard the words, "Well done good and faithful servant. Welcome home."
Her adventure began among the wheat fields of western Nebraska, the daughter of Harry and Lorene Cullan, growing up with Virginia and their ten brothers: Tom, Dave, Doug, Pat, Dan, Larry, Gene, George, Sam and Steve. She was proud of her heritage as a farmer's daughter and every spring, couldn't wait to feel the soil under her finger nails. After graduating from District 81 and St. Agnes Academy, she headed to Loretto Heights College in Denver. There she met and married the love of her life Al. His parents (Ellen and Jerry) and siblings Mike (Mary Ellen), AnneMarie (Dan) Carpenter, Father Rich OP, Rob (Lynne) and Jerry (Ronda) immediately became a part of her life.
Mary Ann considered the most noble and honorable titles a woman can have to be "Mom" and "Granma". The most joyous events of her life were the births of Mark Daniel and Patrick Michael, Mark and Andrea's wedding and the births of Grace Ann, Carmen J, Noah Patrick Jerome and Mya Ellen Teresa. They were the light of her life. She cherished being with them, seeing them grow and sharing their joys, challenges, and accomplishments as well as the disappointments and heartaches. She was an angel in that she touched everyone with kindness, caring, concern and generosity.
Mary Ann had many physical and medical challenges through life. She looked each one in the eye and met them head on with amazing courage and determination, inspired by John Wooden's words: "Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.
Mary Ann loved children, sunrises, lollipops, rainbows, puppies, ice cream and though she loved flowers, she would ask that rather than flowers that contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org/donate) and directed to Juvenile RA Camp – Colorado or Juvenile RA Research.
