Mary Weigle was born February 27, 1916 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and graduated high school there in 1933. She then went on to Penn State, graduating with a degree in home economics in 1937. She held various jobs until WWII, when she tried to enlist in the Marines. She was turned down, so joined the Red Cross and was sent to the Philippines. There she met a handsome Army Major, Sam Weigle, who had PA connections, though he was from Davenport, IA. And though he was Jewish, and she was Lutheran, they became engaged and were later married by a Rabbi in Chicago, IL on August 9, 1946.

In Chicago Mary & Sam started their family, Martha was born in 1950, then Frank in 1952. Needing a larger residence, they moved to Elmhurst, IL where they stayed until 1984, downsizing then to Wood Dale, IL. In 1988, they retired to Little Rock, AR, getting away from the cold & snow, where they lived until Mary's health began to decline. March 17, 2003 they moved into a retirement home in Westminster, CO to be near their children. Needing more extensive nursing care, Mary moved to the care facility at Sunny Acres in Thornton, CO in June of 2005. There she passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of March 7, 2006, after celebrating a full 90 years of life!

Mary's life was full of volunteer work while raising two active children. She joined the PTA, Hospital Guild, and the Elmhurst Symphony Society, where she received a special achievement award. She enjoyed sewing projects, playing the piano, bridge groups, church work as a Deacon in the UCC, and an amateur play readers group. While the kids were in high school, she even worked there as a teacher's aid in the chemistry department. She stayed there until Sam retired in 1972, when they began their world travel adventures. They saw the world together until health issues slowed them down just a few years ago.

Mary, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, is survived by 90 year old husband Sam of almost 60 years, daughter Marty (Stan) Jewell of Westminster, CO, son Frank Weigle of Lafayette, CO and grandchildren, Rebecka & Aaron Jewell, and Annika and Elias Weigle.
