Mary Lee Wagoner
Mary Lee Wagoner was born on March 8, 1941, in Fairfield Nebraska to Mabel (Johnson) and Rolland Hakanson. She was the middle child of three born into the Hakanson home. Mary passed from this life into eternity on December 21st, 2022, at Collier Hospice in Wheat Ridge, Colorado after multiple complications from a fall in February 2022.
Mary grew up on the family's hog and crop farm in Fairfield. She was a tomboy and worked side by side with her dad. She would do anything she could to help with the daily operations. She was often seen driving the tractor and hauling hay bales. Mary graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959. She attended college in Hastings, Nebraska and then went on to radiology school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mary worked as a radiology technician in hospitals and clinics in California, Nebraska, and Colorado. She married Robert (Bob) Wagoner in Aurora, Nebraska on December 26th, 1978. Mary and Bob farmed there before moving to Colorado. Bob owned and ran a trucking company, and Mary continued to work as a radiology technician. Bob died in November 1995 leaving Mary a widow at age 54. After Mary retired, she volunteered at the Cancer Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver.
In spite of Mary's physical limitations, she had a very active social life and made friends easily. As a member of Northglenn Recreation Center, she participated in exercise classes and worked out on her own. She especially enjoyed the pinochle games and other parties and events where she made many friends. She also made many friends at the InnovAge Senior living complex where she lived the last few years of her life. Mary was baptized into the Christian faith and was a member of the Northglenn Christian Church, where again, she made many friends.
Even though Mary suffered greatly from physical problems later in life, she had an amazing ability to find ways to enjoy the day. Mary loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, watching Nebraska Cornhusker and Bronco football games, the Young and Restless and Bold and Beautiful soap operas. Everyone who knew Mary loved her. Her young spirit and zest for life was inspirational. Her spirit, love and memory will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Mary is survived by her nephews Jon and Jordan along with their spouses and children, many cousins from near and far and her family of many friends.
