Mathew Gregory Place "Matt"
Born July 25, 1959 in Salida, Colorado. Matt's heart stopped beating Saturday, January 30, 2021. He was 61 years old. His last residence was with his loving wife and best friend of 41-plus years, Sue Place in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Matt was the youngest of 13 children. Born to Gus M. and S. Aurelia Place and spent his early years growing up in Leadville, Colorado. Matt is survived by two extremely loved daughters, Nicole Aurelia (Nikki) married to Matthew Hamm, of Highlands Ranch, parents of two amazing daughters; Madeline Aurelia (Madi) and Morgan Sue (Mo). Second daughter, Katelyn Sue (Katie) married to Nick Perkal of Highlands Ranch and parents of the adorable Colton Gus and Nick's loving daughter Alexis.
Matt's surviving siblings are Craig Place, Glenda Halingstad, Marylyn Benson, Annette Greb and Tammy Place.
Matt recently retired from Aurora Public Schools after working 18-plus years as an electrician. Matt and Sue were avid travelers. Visiting 30 different countries and 5 of the 7 continents. Throughout Matt's years he enjoyed sports, hiking, cycling, target shooting and good whiskey, but his biggest joy was his family. Matt was a big part of his children's lives. Known to his grandchildren a 'Papa'.
