In Loving Memory of Max Herrera Jr.
Max Herrera Jr passed away on September 13, 2023, at the age of 88 after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was a beloved husband, dad, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, who touched the lives of many. Max was born on April 5, 1935, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Maximillian Herrera and Mary Soledad Chacon. He is preceded in death by 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, sons Stephen, Don, Tim and daughters Joyce and Melissa, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Max married Phyllis Gonzales in 1954 and they had 5 children. The couple grew up on the same street where Max was the local paperboy who stole her heart. The couple recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary!
Early in their marriage Max served in the Air Force followed by a long career at a grocer before opening his own business, The Liquor Stop, which was in business for 27 years.
Max enjoyed listening to jazz music and playing his drum set. He was a man of Faith as it provided hope, strength, and comfort throughout his life. His home in Grand Lake was his favorite spot where he enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his family. The family memories of time spent in Grand Lake will live on forever and be cherished for the rest of our lives.
The thought of Max reunited with family in heaven warms our hearts and our eternal love for him gives us strength during this difficult time.
