Melvin Lee Huddleston, 88, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Denver Hospice after battling several health issues.
He was born in Aurora, Colorado, April 1, 1935, at Fitzsimons Hospital to Milton Lee and Sylvia Huddleston. He lived in Aurora his entire life except for being snowbirds and living in Arizona for six months for several years with his loving wife of 70 years.
He attended Aurora High. His parents took him to Aurora First Assembly of God where he and his father helped build the church on Boston Street. His company did some plumbing work at Aurora First after it moved to Alameda. He was also a Boy Scout troop leader when the boys were younger. He enjoyed Skeet shooting in the early eighties where he earned several awards for Trap & Skeet, 1983-1986.
He started working at the early age of six with a shoeshine business and bought candy with his earnings. Then sold the candy to his two sisters at a penny mark-up. He was manager at the Colorado Piggly Wiggly Store at the age of sixteen. In 1955, he and his father began Aurora Huddleston Plumbing. He instructed his children in the plumbing business and worked for him. He retired in the early 2000s.
He enjoyed his property in Grand Lake with his family and their families, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling and four wheeling in the beautiful mountains, & lots of trips in their motor home. He always enjoyed card and board games, especially Joker in his last days.
He is survived by his wife, Earline, 4 sons and 1 daughter along with their spouses, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. He will be missed by lots of family and friends!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 3-4pm with a reception following at the Newcomer Funeral Home at 190 Potomac Street in Aurora.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to The Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center at 8299 E. Lowry Blvd, Denver, CO 80230.
