Melissa A. Abeyta-Trujillo

June 26, 1979 — January 11, 2019

Melissa Andrea Abeyta-Trujillo, 39, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019, after a five month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones when our loving Lord healed her and took her home. Melissa was a devoted wife and mother, who is survived by her loving husband, Joaquin Trujillo, her four sons, Adrian (14), Jayden (12), Elijah (9), Seth (8 months), her step-son Joaquin (Vanessa) Trujillo, Jr., and step-daughter Angel Trujillo, step-granddaughters Myah and Selene, her mother Teresa Abeyta, her brothers Alvin (Georgine) Abeyta, Jr., Jesse (Jacqueline) Abeyta, step-brothers Andreas (Kim) Mackintosh and Steven Ramirez, her grandmother Ercilia Abeyta, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Melissa also known as "Missy" was born in Denver, Colorado to Alvin Abeyta, Sr. (late), and Teresa Abeyta on June 26, 1979. She was the first-born granddaughter from both sides of the family. She was referred to as "little queen," and that stayed with her through life, growing up in a family with four brothers and then having four sons, being the only girl, her crown certainly fit.

Melissa attended Metropolitan State University of Denver and received a BA in Sociology and Behavioral Science with Education in 2005. She knew early in life what she wanted to be when she grew up. She worked very hard and diligently to achieve her goals. Melissa started her teaching profession in early childhood education then became the Principal at Center of Hope Academy in 2013. Melissa also was a Youth Minister for 4 Years where she inspired and connected with youth in her church community as well as her classroom. In 2016, Melissa found her true passion when she started working for Colorado UpLift as a Teacher/Mentor where she inspired and motivated students while building long, life-changing relationships.

Melissa met the true love of her life in 2011. She married Joaquin in 2012. She was a devout woman of God and together, with their children, they became servants of Jesus. She found comfort and joy in serving the homeless in the community, including feeding them, clothing them, washing their feet and praying with them. Her favorite bible verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Melissa had full trust in the Lord, even in her most grievous days of illness, her faith never wavered. Instead, she inspired and renewed hope for many family members and close friends. She was a shining light and positive touch for all those who knew her.

One thing Melissa would want you to know is that she knew from the moment of her diagnosis that she would be healed, whether here on earth or in heaven. Melissa would not want you to feel bad for her because she is now reunited with her Dad rejoicing in heaven. We will miss her dearly and look forward to the day we meet again.
Melissa is preceded in death by her father, Alvin Abeyta, Sr., Grandfather Perfecto Abeyta, Grandmother Mary Lucy Lanford, her uncles, Michael Abeyta, David Abeyta, Robert Abeyta, and other family members and friends.
