Michael Kelly Bunce died Monday May 21st peacefully at his home in Thornton Colorado. He was 84 years old. Born September 25, 1933 moved to the Denver area in 1969, He is survived by his wife Nikki Matthews-Bunce, his daughter Michelle Bunce, son Mike Matthews, and daughters Becky Langer, and Tia Weiler.
Memorial Service at Newcomer, 901 Sheridan Boulevard Lakewood, will be June 5, 2018 at 12pm followed by internment at Fort Logan Cemetery.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan the son of adoptive parents William J Bunce and his wife Petronella, who was lovingly called "Peaches". He went into the Navy after High School at the age of 17 (with his father's signature and blessing). He served in the United States Navy's Submarine Force and was honorably discharged after 7 years of service. Mike then went to Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. His navy experience with communications and telephone systems led him to study in the exciting new field of Information Technology. Mike finished first in his class and accepted a job with Bell Telephone Laboratories. In 1969 his entire research department was transferred from New Jersey to Denver bringing him to the Front Range where he would spend the rest of his life. In 1975 he met his soon-to-be wife Nikki together they raised three children, and have six grandchildren: Lindsey, Megan, Joseph, Alec, Trey, and Tessa. Mike has been an active member of the Retired Submarine Veterans "Rocky Mountain Base" for the last ten years.
