Michael Winston Francis was born in New York City, New York on November 1, 1952 to
Sarah and George Francis.
Michael received his primary education in New York, particularly at the school of Music &
Art. In the early 1970's, Michael continued his education at Case Western Reserve
University in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Soon after
from there, work brought Michael to Denver, Colorado where he met and eventually
married his wife, Ardell Rivera-Francis.
Michael will be remembered for his buoyant and unforgettable personality. He wore many
hats and worked a number of vocations throughout his life, being a father as his proudest
role. A stranger to no one, he was warmly talkative, a lover of all kinds of music and art, and
very knowledgeable about a multitude of topics and histories.
Michael is survived by his wife, Ardell Rivera-Francis, his step-mother Thelma Nelson, his
daughter, Alisha M. Francis, his son Alexander W. Francis, his son Aerik C. Francis, his
daughter-in-law Danielle Martinez, his grandchildren, Indie, Luis, and Rashad, as well as
the extended circle of his other family members, friends, and colleagues.
