Our loving Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, Great-Great Aunt Mildred (Mimi) Rutherford, was suddenly called home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2007 at 8:20 in the evening.
After an early childhood on the eastern plains of Colorado during the Dustbowl and the Great Depression years, her family moved to Frisco, Colorado, where she finished her school years and witnessed much change to the Summit County area as the Dillon Reservoir was built and before the ski industry moved in.
Her adult life included working at the dining hall at the Climax Molybdenum Mine in the 1940's, teaching Sunday School as a member of the American Sunday School Union, and working with her hands crafting beautiful afghans, clothes, and so much more. She contracted polio in 1948, survived its devastating effects and relocated to the Front Range, where she began a career in the court system. She was Court Clerk in Golden, and worked among up-and-coming lawyers such as former Governor Roy Romer, and then continued her career in the Brighton Court House from which she retired in 1985.
Mildred also served as a musician in the various churches she attended through the years, and supported numerous ministries around the world. She was a strong supporter of Colorado's own Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je in Bailey. In recent years, she contributed to her brother's books about their life in Colorado during the harsh years of the 1930's and 40's.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Minnie and James Russell, an infant brother, and another brother, Dean, who perished July 4, 1950, on his final flight as a medic in the Korean War. She is survived by another brother, Harold (Lois) Rutherford, of Federal Heights, and a sister, Helen (Bob) Davidson, of Sandpoint, Idaho, close first cousins Margie Wilkins and Charlotte "Toddy" O'Brien, both of the Denver area. She also leaves behind 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 7 great nieces, 12 great nephews, 6 great-great nieces, and 4 great-great nephews on her siblings' side and numerous other family members across the United States.
