Miriam Fitchett Middleton, 93, of Westminster, CO, passed away on November 6, 2024, at Covenant Living retirement community. Miriam was born to loving parents Lura and Kendall Fitchett on their farm in Toano, VA, on March 13, 1931. Growing up with an older sister, Sally, Miriam was nurtured by a close extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. The life of the church was important to Miriam's family, and at eight years of age she responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. About that same time her father died suddenly, devastating the family and friends. In 1946, Miriam, her mother and sister moved to Williamsburg, VA, to operate a BnB for tourists visiting Colonial Williamsburg. After high school Miriam entered The College of William and Mary and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from Stuart Circle School of Nursing in Richmond, VA.
In 1956 Miriam married Jack O. Middleton of Lanett, AL, whom she met in Charlottesville, VA, while he was attending graduate school and she was working as a nurse. They raised two children, Robin and Scott, in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, before moving back to Charlottesville in the early 1980s. In 2003 Jack and Miriam moved to Covenant Living in Westminster, CO, to be near family. Miriam was known for her sweet spirit, love for Jesus Christ, devotion to prayer, artistic talent, fashion, and sense of humor.
Miriam was preceded in death in November 2023 by her husband of 67 years, Jack O. Middleton, and in 2008 by her sister, Sally Fitchett Yeomans. Miriam is survived by her daughter Robin Middleton of Westminster, CO, her son Scott (Kathy) of Littleton, CO, three grandchildren -- John Middleton of Lakewood, CO, David (Tara Corbett) Middleton of Durham, NC, and Hannah (Scott) Hines of Sherman Oaks, CA – one great-granddaughter, Reese Hines, and two nephews and their families. Miriam's family was blessed beyond measure by her life, love, and faith, and its appreciation goes out to all who loved her so well.
A memorial service to honor Miriam will be held for family and friends at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, in the Smith Fellowship Hall at Covenant Living in Westminster. Interment will be at a later date at James City Chapel Cemetery in Norge, VA.
