Nancy Lavina Broach

Nancy Lavina Broach was born in 1935 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Pearl Irene Wilcox and John Wesley Knapp Wilcox.

Nancy was one of 6 children born to Pearl and John Wilcox: Floyd Wesley - 1927, Pearl Knapp - 1929 - died at 11 months, Lavon Irene - 1930, Chester Bill - 1933, Nancy Lavina - 1935 and Thomas Orlando - 1937.

The Wilcox family left Oklahoma in 1938 due to the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. Nancy's father found a job operating a 3-minute photo machine with The Slim Crutchfield's Carnival. Then, the Wilcox family made their way to Campo, Colorado. That is where her father died on June 11, 1941 working on the Caddoe Dam west of Lamar, Colorado. Nancy's mother moved the family to Canon City, Colorado and that's where she married Walter Freed. Pear Irene and Walter had a daughter, Ruth Eilene Freed in 1951.

Nancy grew up in Canon City where she had a job as a Paperboy. Nancy graduated from Canon City High School in 1953. She excelled at school and enjoyed being a cheerleader. That was the birth of Nancy's love of sports, "Go Broncos!"

In the Spring of 1957 she loaded up her 1956 Chevy and headed to Nevada. Nancy got a job at the Test Site as a secretary. Nancy's brother, Wesley Wilcox worked there as a Nuclear Scientist. Nancy talked about how exciting it was to work there and watch the above-ground Atomic Tests. One comment she made was how beautiful the colors were.

Nancy met and married Thomas Broach on February 5, 1960 at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. Tom was in the Air Force and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. Their children were born when they lived in Indian Springs, Nevada: Tina Mayer in 1962 and Richard Bryan in 1964. Then the Broach family moved to Turkey in 1968. Tom retired from the Air Force and the family moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1970.

Nancy had many talents and gifts. She played the Piano and the Native American Flute. She was a gifted seamstress, cake decorator and enjoyed working with ceramics when she lived in Turkey. But her passion was the hunt, for a good deal and a great bargain, with her friend Cora Parsons as well as a fun game of bingo. Nancy and her sister-in-law Peggy Wilcox loved their trips up to Black Hawk to play the slot machines. She and her sister-in-law Nancy Jo Wilcox for together for many lunches. Nancy's Christian faith and love of the piano lead her to work with Pastor Bruce Richter, playing the piano at the Denver Rescue Mission and Sable Care Nursing Home, where her sister-in-law Birdie Broach and Nancy volunteered to help with the church services.

Nancy loved all of her family, the Broaches and the Wilcoxes. She made sure that the lines of communication stayed open.

Nancy leaves behind her children, Tina Mayer and Richard Broach and his wife Teresa Daylight; her grandchildren, Richard's daughter, Leslie Ann Hedgecoke, Leslie's brother Zach Purcell and his wife Jaren "J.J.," Tina's son, Jake Carpenter and Teresa's sons Jeremy and Jason; her great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Brie, Brenyn, Zoey and Jackson.

Nancy Lavina Broach died at home on Thursday, February 19, 2021 from a heart attack. She will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband, Thomas Broach, at Ft. Logan on March 4th at 1PM. Due to COVID-19, only 10 guests can attend the service.

Nancy had a passion for life and lived it well. She was loved and will be missed.
