Nancy C. Voegeli, 83, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away June 12, 2010. She was born February 7, 1927 in Tacoma, Washington.
Nancy was the beloved mother of Dr. Paul T. (Dea) Voegeli, Jr., of Tabernash and Lakewood and Melanie Voegeli-Morris (Paul) of Fort Collins. YiaYia of Thomas, Timothy and Anna Morris. Also survived by other relatives in the Pacific Northwest and Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Paul T. Voegeli, Sr., who unexpectedly and suddenly passed away in November of 1970.
Nancy lived a full and active life devoted to her family, community and her Greek Orthodox faith. For nearly twenty years she was involved in teaching reading programs and in the education of children at the Dennison School in Lakewood. A great part of her life was centered in her church and she was co-founder, along with her dear friend the late Helen Athens, of what became one of the largest Greek Orthodox bookstores in the United States and which is still centered at the Diocese Center in Denver. She was always generous with her energy, time and resources to her church and her Orthodox faith.
In 2005 Nancy was honored with the Order of St. Paul award; this award is the highest honor conferred on the laity by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, and recognizes exemplary service to the church.
Nancy's family and her wonderful circle of friends were her highest priority. Ever faithful as a friend and a wonderful loving mother and YiaYia - this is how she will be remembered.
A celebration of Nancy's life and makaria will follow the funeral services at the Cathedral Community Center.
In lieu of flowers and per Nancy's wishes, contributions in her memory may be made through the Cathedral's Philoptochos Womens' Organization to Trinity House.
She had a life filled with challenges and the strength to face everyday with grace, good will and generosity. May her memory be eternal in our hearts.
