Neilus (Neil) August Rome, 89, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at his home in Golden, Colorado, surrounded by his family.
Neil was born in St. Peter, Kansas, to Raymond and Genevieve Rome on April 25, 1934. He graduated from Morland High School and married Mary Ann Billinger in St. Peter on May 24, 1955. He raised young cattle and wheat as a ranch hand in Hoisington, Kansas, for six years. The family moved to Denver, Colorado, where Neil graduated from Denver Barber College. He owned and operated North Park Barber Service for 34 years.
A farmer at heart, Neil most enjoyed working in the yard, landscaping, and tending and cultivating trees. You could always find him working in his garage on his collector cars, including his 1935 Dodge, his 1952 Chevy, and 1971 GMC pickup. He also collected and restored antique clocks.
Neil is preceded in death by his mother and father, Raymond and Genevieve Rome, his brothers Simplicius (Sim), Adolph, Ronald, and baby Wayne, and his sisters Mary Wilmott and Delcie Knaack.
Neil is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Janice Kay Rome-Fritz (Joe); his two grandchildren Justin Southern (Jerry Heard) and Hannah Brady (Bruce); his two great-grandchildren Emmeline and Elise Brady; his sister, Marcella Roe; and his brothers Leonard, Daniel, Jerome, and Raymond.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on May 24, 2023, with mass following at 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Parish at 969 Ulysses St., Golden, CO, 80401.
