The Widick family are heartbroken to announce the death of their beloved daughter, sister and granddaughter Nicole (Nicki) Renee Widick. Nicki was born on January 2nd, 1972 and, after a fierce battle with cancer, went quietly home to be in the presence of the Lord on January 24th, 2021.
Just two weeks after Nicki was born, she had the amazingly good fortune to be chosen to join the loving family of Chuck, Barb, and big brother Todd Widick. On her Gotcha Day, Todd was the first member of the family to hold Nicki, and he spent the rest of her life as her loyal protector. Todd was Nicki's champion throughout a lifetime of health issues, and he spent her last hours on this earth at her bedside. Chuck and Barb never missed an opportunity to show their love for Nicki – supporting and encouraging her throughout her life and caring for her so tenderly and devotedly in the months before her death.
Despite the profound grief her passing brings, Nicki had a life that deserves celebration. Words that best describe her include beautiful, adaptive, confident and smart. She had an adventurous spirit and was always unapologetically herself. At a very young age, she learned to snow and waterski with her parents and brother. She loved to spend time on her grandparents' farm where her love of animals began. That love deepened as she got older, especially for horses, and she was so happy to be able to take English riding lessons in high school.
Nicki graduated from Smoky Hill High School in 1990 and hoped to attend college to become a large animal vet. When orthopedic issues prevented her from pursuing such a physical profession, she quickly regrouped and went on to graduate from Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo with a degree in Microbiology. Nicki's professional life led her to work in the marketing departments of Bioptics and then Ducati Motorcycles. Ducati was a place where Nicki's thrill-seeking nature was amplified even further, and she loved riding her Ducati Superbike.
In quieter moments, Nicki spent her time creatively on hobbies such as gardening, flower arranging, origami and other crafts. She had a compassionate side and was a faithful caretaker of animals and people who were in need. She gave and received a lifetime of love from her many pets, including cats, bunnies, and her cherished pups - Lilou and Pokey. Lilou and Nicki had an especially strong bond, and Lilou was rarely seen away from Nicki's bedside as her health declined.
Left to remember Nicki are her loving parents, Chuck and Barb Widick, her brother Todd Widick, and her grandmother Fran Widick. Welcoming her into heaven are her grandparents John & Doris Huber, Jack & Dorothy Widick, and uncle and aunt John & Barbara Huber.
The Widick family wishes to send sincere thanks to all the staff at The Denver Hospice who were such a source of support and comfort throughout the last few months of Nicki's life. Special thanks to Deanna, Elle and Chaplain Lee. The privilege of caring for Nicki in her last days and the sweet memories that were made as a family would not have been possible without you.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, the family respectfully requests tributes in Nicki's memory to The Denver Hospice - 8299 E. Lowry Blvd, Denver, Colorado, 80230.
