Norma Lee Carpenter was born October 2, 1931 in Sterling, Colorado and passed away peacefully at her home in Littleton, CO on March 21, 2023.
Norma was the first born of seven children to Inez Hazlett-Simmons. As a toddler, the family relocated to the Pueblo Colorado area. After Pueblo, they moved to various dairy farms to keep employed during the Great Depression. One of those dairy farms covered the area, which is referred to as Jackass Hill and that home still stands today. Norma was still a youngster, when her family relocated to what would become her forever home of Littleton, CO. They lived on the dairy farm known as Grant Dairy Farm. Their home was located where the Sears at Southwest Plaza once operated.
Norma attended Littleton High School and eventually graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1949.
Norma graduated with straight A's and was awarded a full ride scholarship to Colorado State Teachers College, which is now called University of Northern Colorado. She completed two years of college during that time and worked as a care giver for "Granny" and lived with her loving family, where she earned room and board, and money to send home to her family, Norma met her first husband on summer break at Gates Rubber Company, which led to her decision to get married and start her family. Norma married Bill Alexander and became the proud mother of three beautiful children, Chris, Scott and Becky. Through the years, she worked extremely hard to raise and support her family. Through time, Norma remarried. Norma and Ken Carpenter married and had three beautiful children Nicky, Lynn and Mitch. Life was full of fun and surprises with six children.
As the years went by, Norma worked many places and often held two or three jobs at one time to provide for her family. Gates Rubber Company, The Littleton Independent, The Arapahoe County Clerk & Recorder's Office and the Public Defender's Office to name a few. Norma was active in Littleton Town Hall, The Red Hat Club, The Bega Littleton Sister City Exchange and travelled all over the state to take beautiful pictures of Colorado.
Norma had a true love for her family. She will be remembered for her love of photography, her love of birds, her grace, her humble beginnings and her kindness. We will be forever grateful for her one true wish of staying in her home, as she grew older. Her son Mitch, granted that wish and provided daily care and truly was her angel on Earth.
Norma is preceded in death by her Mother, Inez Simmons, son, James Christopher Alexander and grandson, Adam Jeremy Taylor. Norma is survived by her children Scott Alexander (Irene), Becky Taylor, Nicky Cross, Lynn White (Ralph) and son Mitch. She is survived by fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
