Orvel Gustar Gast entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2010 at Life Care Center of Aurora. Born December 6, 1921 in Wapheton, ND, and was the 4th son of William C. and Bertha Mohs Gast. Val was raised on a rural farm and learned the values of hard work and perseverance. He graduated from Wapheton High School, at every opportunity throughout his lifetime he encouraged all young people to consider furthering their education. Upon learning of Pearl Harbor, he joined the US Armed Forces on December 7, 1941 and spent most of his active duty years in the Pacific Arena. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a civilian at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center as the Motorpool Shop Foreman for 37 years. His great passion in life was pheasant and quail hunting, participating in dog trials, and training dogs related to these sports. He loved to dance and asked every young lady he met if she liked to dance. He is survived by his loving wife, Mae Joan "Jody" Gast; daughter, Cynthia Powell; son, Kim Gast; stepchildren, David Wiley, Ronald (Deanne Hancock) Wiley, and Pamela (Scott) Jussel; grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, and Danielle Wiley, Kyle (Allison) Jussel, and Jamie (Jesse) Fasano; and one great grandchild, Sydney Mae Jussel. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; and stepson, Jeffery Dale Wiley. The family would like to thank the Life Care Center staff for the kind and loving care they provided Val during his stay with them.
