Orville Leon Scoggins

December 17, 1942 — December 24, 2017

Leon Orville Scoggins, 75, of Aurora, Colorado passed away at Aurora Medical Center, December 24, 2017. When God called him home, Leon's faith in his Lord and Savior turned into sight.

Leon, the son of Jesse and Louise (Mitchell) Scoggins, was born December 17, 1942 in Hooker, Oklahoma. He grew up there and attended Hooker Schools. Leon volunteered for the draft and enlisted in the Army in the month of October 1961. He served his country proudly until 1963 and spent the next four years in the Army Reserve completing his service in 1967.

On November 2, 1968, he was married to Fonda Hoyt from Syracuse, Kansas. They made their home in Guymon, Oklahoma and moved to Aurora, Colorado in November pf 1978.

While in Guymon, Leon worked at a variety of places including Perkins Oil Company, Houser Insurance, Texas Assessor's Office, The Guymon Police Department and Texas County Sheriff's Department. After their move to Aurora, Colorado Leon continued working in law enforcement (the vocation he loved). He served as Director of Security for three major hotels in the downtown Denver area and was a Federal Security Officer from 1997-2005 when he retired.

Leon was an avid fan of Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed watching horse racing and was also a NASCAR fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, niece Kelsey Louise (Scoggins) Kennedy; sister-in-law Jeanne Pollart and nephew Scott Pollart.

He is survived by his loving wife Fonda; son Trevor, both Aurora, CO; brothers JD (Carol) Scoggins of North Platte, Nebraska, Eddy (Marilyn) Scoggins of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Gaynell (Steve) Shufflebarger of Syracuse, Nebraska; nieces Kayla States of North Platte, Nebraska, Holly Moore of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kimberly Hickmon of Guymon, Oklahoma, Skyler Beth Parkey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Shannon Miller of Hooker, Oklahoma; nephews Devon Scoggins of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Eric Shaw of Inman, Kansas and Ryan Shaw of Powhattan, Kansas.

There will be a memorial service later this spring. Memorials may be given to the charity of choice in his memory.
