October 20, 1943 – November 15, 2009
Aka "Nana", 66, of Aurora, passed away peacefully Sunday Nov. 15, 2009 surrounded by her family at St. Joseph Hospital after a well fought 5 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. Born October 20, 1943, in Newark, OH to Roy Alfred and Dorothy May Vaughn. Preceded in death by her mother, she is survived by her husband: Richard of 46 years; father: Roy Vaughn; sisters: Sandra Thomas; Sylvia Seaman; Diane Darnes; children: Debbie (George) Jones; Matt (Denise Fahey) Glass; grandchildren: Jillian (20); Jakelyn (17); Jessica (14); Sarah (13); Jaleah (12); Christopher (9); and her four legged companion - Spirit. She was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, sister/brother-in-laws great-nieces/nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Graduate of Newark High School, class 1961. Small but mighty, classmates called her "Half-pint". Following in her barber father's footsteps, she graduated cosmetology school and became a beautician. After beginning her family with Richard in 1963 her true passion for children and animals emerged. Debbie was born in 1964; Matt followed in 1966. In addition to being a remarkable mother, she raised poodle puppies and watched children in her home. In 1973, the family moved to Aurora, CO. After a short few years in retail, her knack for animals lead to managing several Pet City Stores, opening the original Pet City Store in the new Aurora Mall. A heart for children, she was always the "Kool-aid" mom, taking in stray kids and animals with open arms. Later, this special gift afforded her 15+ years to lovingly impact countless little lives (as well as their parents) in her in-home business "Patty's Daycare". Her hobbies included reading, soaking in her hot tub, gardening amazing roses and an incredible talent for art, in particularly painting and needle point.
