Patricia Logan, 82, of Centennial CO, passed away Saturday October 28, 2023.
She was born to the late Berardino and Elizabeth Pala, June 28, 1941 in New Eagle Pennsylvania. Pat graduated from Monongahela High School in 1959, and earned her Nursing license from Mercy Hospital School of nursing in 1962. She relocated to Denver CO in 1993.
Patricia was a nurse by trade, and earned her license at a teaching hospital where she worked and lived with a grueling schedule. She had amazing stories about the expectations and grit it took to make it through the old nursing program. She was always amazed at how much nursing has changed in her many visits to the local hospitals.
In 1981 Pat was diagnosed with Muscular Sclerosis (MS). In those days there wasn't much known about this disease and they didn't have any specific protocols or treatments for MS. She additionally had progressive MS which was fairly aggressive. She lost her ability to walk in the nineties and then continued to lose her ability to move her hands. By about 2018 she was no longer able to feed herself or pick up a mug to drink by herself. If this wasn't a trial enough, she ended up with a rare cancer on her face called Merkel cell carcinoma and had to have multiple surgeries and radiation that took away a lot of her ability to taste. Since they had to take out such a big section of her face from the surgery she was never able to completely close her right eye and unfortunately her eyesight deteriorated as a result. Due to this she wasn't able to read her books that she truly enjoyed or even see much on the TV.
Throughout all these trials and challenges she was always able to stay positive and she amazed many nurses and doctors with her positivity. She never complained about her condition or dwelt on things she could no longer experience. Since she couldn't experience much herself due to her medical limitations she never got depressed or sad about others experiences, instead she just enjoyed them through others.
Patricia was a strong advocate of MS research and gave regularly to the National MS society.
