Paul Daniel Moran passed peacefully on May 20, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born on January 11, 1930, to Leo and Mayme Moran on the family farm near Honey Creek, Iowa. He was the fifth out of his six siblings – Thomas Leo, Dolores Mae, Joann, Joseph Patrick and younger brother, Dale Lewis. The family was well known in the community and attended Catholic mass every Sunday and holidays come rain, snow, or shine.
Paul graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa in January 1948. He worked on the farm for his first twenty-two years and learned valuable lessons during The Great Depression and drought. Paul joined the Army on May 17, 1952, and went to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later attended tractor scraper school. He was then assigned to the 969th Combat Engineers Battalion at Camp Roeder in Salzburg, Augstria until May 1954.
Once Paul finished his Army service, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where he studied pre-engineering. Paul met Barbara Gottsch at a July 4th party and the couple married in April 1955. Paul had a successful career in construction until retiring in 2008.
Paul is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Becky) Jo (Dieter) Manning, son Ben Leo, and daughter Carol Anne (Leo) Libfeld; his grandson Jeremy (Sarah) DeVoss, two great -granddaughters, Ellen and Anna DeVoss; his granddaughter Crystal (Ryan) Mahany, and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Grayson Mahany.
Paul was an active member of Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Colorado. He committed to donating his body to science after his passing. In his words, “Let them figure out what I’m made of (good luck).”
