Pauline (Eldred) Tobin
March 9, 1926 – March 18, 2010
Pauline was born the youngest daughter of Mano and Holden Eldred and sister of Berdie, Nellie, Ruth, Harold, Peggy, Helen, and Connie; being the eighth sibling of a ten member family. She was born in Oak Creek, Colorado the daughter of a miner who died by her third birthday. Because she was the youngest she was an aunt at birth and became a step daughter to Frank Monthy after her father's death. They moved to Longmont where she grew up and went to school. The family ended up in Grandview, Washington when she was a teenager, where she would spend time with her sister Ruth and family. One of those children Sylvia, remembers her at 18 as someone to look up to and admire, being so beautiful both inside and out. It was at this time of her life she sang, "Bell Bottom Trousers, Coat of Navy Blue", an obvious reference to her anticipated union with Harold Tobin who was in the Navy in 1942. They were married and started their life together in 1944, eventually ending up back in Longmont.
The oldest daughter of Harold and Pauline, Paulette, was born in 1946 and eventually another daughter, Kathy, was born in 1953. Harold and Paulette have pre-deceased Pauline in 1995 and 2008. Pauline was devastated as she said, "a child is not supposed to die before her mother!" Now they have been re-united in heaven getting caught up on each other's experiences. As she was going through the departing process, one of her statements to her daughter Kathy and husband was, "I've done all I can here and although you will miss me please be happy for me, and you'll go on and begin your new life together!"
As in birth being the last child to be born she is now the last child to depart. Her sister Helen left in February and her sister Connie left in 2009. She was content to be both the youngest and the last of the Eldred family to leave, being survived by her daughter Kathy and son in law Bob Phelps. Her extended family are from Paulette a grandson Michael Stokes married to Tamara with their children Aiden and Alana, granddaughter Tonya with Mitch and their children Aubrey, Mason, Kiley, and Zachery. Kathy and Bob have children Sean, and Pauline's step grand children Lauri, Rob and Kristi. Lauri is married to Ben Ennis and has a daughter Chelsea, Rob Phelps with Josephina has a daughter Reyna, and Kristi is married to Jade Holstine with children Jory, Jeremy and Kamryn. So you can see she had two daughters, six grand children and eleven great grandchildren, who all remember grandma with her sharp wit, stunning responses, a light up your world smile, blue eyes and affectionate loving demeanor that would bring you to the immediate moment of total acceptance. She lived and loved with this affection all 84 years of her life. She will be remembered often and missed greatly.
