Penny Sharon Schilken, 76, of Lakewood, died Thursday April 12, 2018. She was born to the late William and Edna Sutton on December 26, 1941 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Penny grow up on a ranch in the sandhills of Nebraska and found a love of the outdoors and horses. Penny graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1960. She married the late Steven Schilken on November 9, 1968 in Denver, Colorado. They lived together in Denver before relocating to Lakewood where they found their forever home on S. Kendell St.
Penny worked several jobs over the years including a nursing assistant at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, a teaching assistant at Notre Dome preschool in Denver, and at Costco and King Soopers doing demos for different products. Penny was involved in her later life with several area square-dancing groups including the Mountaineers and Hilltoppers. Penny loved to travel and had been several times to Mexico and Hawaii, she traveled the United States by bus enjoying trips to the Northwest and the Southeast and she also traveled by river cruise through Europe.
Penny is survived by two children: Terry Schilken (Chrissy) of Denver; and Cindy Green of Denver. She is also survived by her sister Connie Sutton of Kansas (and family); her Aunt Jeri and Uncle Jack Ogborn of Torrington, Wyoming (and family); her niece Hollie Benkleman of Greenwood Village (and Family); and many loved ones and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Edna Sutton; husband Steven Schilken; and brother Harry Sutton.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Penny's name to Foothill Animal Shelter or the Denver Dumb Friend League.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Saturday June 9, 2018 at 2pm followed by a reception.
