Peter Gottfried Hoemke, age 83, of Shalom Park in Aurora Colorado, passed away, March 18, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn New York on July 4, 1935, to Louise and Gottfried Hoemke. He graduated from high school in Brooklyn New York and attended Brigham Young University. In October 1956 Peter married Kay Hardy in the Salt Lake temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As a young adult, Peter served in the Air National Guard. He was a reserve officer for the Salt Lake City police force for a few years before moving to California and joining the Santa Ana police department in 1963 as a full-time officer. In 1965 he left the police department and became a full-time truck driver until retirement.
Peter was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He completed a 2-year stake mission. He had a great love and of his Savior Jesus Christ and desired to follow Him in every way he could. He and his wife served a three-year mission at the Bishop Storehouse in Aurora, Colorado.
Peter was an avid scouter and active scout leader in various packs, troops, and districts in Utah, California, and Colorado. He held many positions including: Cub Master, Scout Master, Unit Commissioner, and Assistant District Commissioner. He earned the District Award of Merit and attended Wood Badge.
Peter is survived by his wife Kay Hoemke and five children: Joanne (Larry) Fry, Rodney (Chris) Hoemke, Stephen (Candace) Hoemke, Shari (Ed) Aschieris, R. LeRoy (Liana) Hoemke, and his sister Annaliza Hoemke Swain. He is preceded in death by his son: Kenneth Hoemke, granddaughter Laura Hoemke, grandson Ryan Aschieris and his parents Louise Piesche and Gottfried Hoemke. Peter has 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 30th, 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4701 S. Chambers Rd., Aurora CO.
