Phillip Van Dunk Jr.

September 5, 1975 — November 2, 2021

Phillip Edward Van Dunk Jr. was born on Friday, September 5, 1975 in Suffern, New York to Phillip Sr. and Renee Van Dunk. He was the youngest child born to this union. Anxiously awaiting his arrival was older sister Tammy. Phillip (who was affectionately called PJ throughout his youth) and Tammy moved from New York to Colorado as young children to live with their maternal grandparents, Leo and Loretta Morgan.

Phillip enjoyed playing in Little League sports as a child, developing his skills in both football and baseball. He was educated in the Denver Public Schools system, graduating from Montbello High School in 1993. He was an engaged and active student, Lettering in band.

Phillip began working for the City of Aurora Water Department in 1997. He served nearly 25 years with the City, working his way to a Maintenance Supervisor role. He was still employed in this capacity upon his passing.

In 1994 Phillip would meet Shirene Prien while working at McDonald's in Aurora Mall. Although Shirene was immediately smitten, Phillip took a more laid back approach. Eventually he came to know the undeniable; that they were meant to be. The two would go on to be married in 2001. To this union two beautiful daughters were born, Selena and Noelle. Phillip adored his family and they would make a life for themselves in Aurora, Colorado.

Phillip enjoyed cooking, playing golf, bicycling, ATV'ing, camping, watching various sports and playing the piano by ear. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time at home with his wife and daughters. His legacy will live on in both of his daughters whom he treasured so much.

Phillip Edward Van Dunk, Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother, Renee Van Dunk and his maternal grandparents, Leo and Loretta Morgan.

Those left to cherish the memory of a man who gave so much to others through the gift of good food, laughter and friendship are his wife, Shirene Van Dunk; daughters, Selena and Noelle; father, Phillip (Mary) Van Dunk Sr.; siblings, Tammy (Kevin) Lewis; Ivy (Aaron) Van Dunk; Anthony (Andrea) Van Dunk; Shannon (Dan) Van Dunk; Roman (Krystyna) Van Dunk; Gideon Van Dunk and Keziah Van Dunk, in-state cousins, Glenn Derrick (Kristina) Christopher; Heather (Ray) Morgan; and many other loving relatives in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, South Carolina and Arizona.
