Ramon Paul Witt, 85, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away following heart surgery on September 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 6, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa, to late parents Mary Esther Hutchinson and Albert F. Witt. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1956 and attended Cornell College in Iowa. He married Karen E. Graham in December 1959.
In high school, Ray excelled at football and wrestling, receiving a football scholarship from Cornell College until sidelined by an injury. As a young man, he saved the life of a man by pulling him from the Mississippi River; for which he was honored by the City of Clinton and received a gold watch. He worked as a mechanic and maintenance manager in the anhydrous ammonia industry moving from locations in Iowa to New Mexico, and finally to Colorado retiring as a Maintenance Superintendent in the oil and gas industry.
All his life he enjoyed the outdoors and hunted and fished with his father Albert, brother Albert Jr., sister Delores, family, friends and his sons. Later in life, he gave up hunting and began to photograph all types of subjects, especially nature, animals and birds. Through his knowledge of the outdoors and his passion for photography, he became an accomplished photographer with many outstanding and "once in a lifetime" pictures. His work inspired others to take up outdoor photography as well. Along his journey, he became best friends with another accomplished, long-time photographer Ron Willocks. Together they scoured the region and Rocky Mountain National Park always looking for the perfect shot.
Ray loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed reading stories, photographing, playing and just hanging out with them. They all agree that Grandpa was "really nice, told great stories and had the best lap."
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Albert, sister Delores and brother Albert Jr. (Velma). He is survived by his wife Karen, sons Jon Paul (Marit) of Minnesota, Daniel Ramon (Pam) and Joseph Carl (Lulu), both of Colorado, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandsons, niece Julie Meyer (Dan), nephews Jeff Witt (Sue), Greg Witt (Nancy) and sister-in-law Donna Andrew, (Mike).
