Randolph Lee Smith was born April 11, 1930 in Plainview, Texas. He grew up there, attending public schools and graduating from high school in 1949. He worked with his dad and brothers in harvesting as a teenager and in a print shop before being drafted into the US Army serving 2 years at Ft Lee, VA. During his time at Ft Lee, he met and married Elizabeth Wray, after writing as pen pals. They were married in January 1953 and lived in Burlington NC where he took night courses at Elon College. He graduated in 1960 with a degree in Math and Physics. This resulted in a new job and a move to Colorado. Randy and Beth have 2 children, Randola (married to Mike) and Kent (married to Paula), five grandchildren, Tim, Josh, Nick, Laura and Zac, and 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Alannah, Cora, Tevin, Ronin and Freyja.
Randolph has also been known as Randy, Rannie, Smitty, Dad, Daddy, Grandpa and GGpa. He loved cars, fixing cars, actually fixing anything we brought him, carpentry, helping his children and grandchildren whenever he could, and being a friend to all. He enjoyed 59 years of marriage and was faithful to care for Beth always especially in her final years of illness. He served on many church committees and building projects. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a witty comment or a joke to tell.
He is preceded to heaven by his parents, Sam and Willie Smith of Plainview, TX, 2 brothers, Milton Smith of Abilene, TX and George Smith of Childress, TX and his loving wife Beth of Aurora, CO He is survived by one sister, Lois Taggart of Lubbock, Tx, his 2 children, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, all residing in Colorado.
He spent the final few years of his life enriching the lives of countless caregivers with his witty sense of humor even through the veil of Alzheimer's Disease. Numerous stories have been shared demonstrating how much he will be missed.
