Raymond “Ray” Wekluk went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on February 4, 2025. Ray was born on December 28, 1927 in Wall, Pennsylvania to Steven and Mildred Wekluk. A gifted multi-sport athlete once recruited by legendary University of Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp, Ray was drafted into the US Army shortly after his 18th birthday. During his army career, he met and married the love of his life, Virginia “Jennie” Knuckles. Ray and Jennie traveled the country and the world while he served our country, and along the way, he perfected his craft as a renowned dental technician. After retiring, they settled in Aurora, Colorado in 1969 where Ray began his second career as a civilian senior dental technician at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center until his retirement in 1989. The Wekluks continued their world travels alongside their good friends in the Ports of Call Travel Club. Ray has never met a stranger and has touched so many lives over the years, both personally and professionally.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Jennie, his parents, his siblings (Stephanie Brassell, Pauline Szuch, Michael Wekluk and Sophia Faris) and his faithful companion, his dog Lucky. He is survived by his son, Tom Wekluk and wife Barbara of Fredericksburg, VA, grandchildren Tom, Michelle, Sonja and Alex and 12 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews/great nieces and countless friends.
The family would especially like to thank Ray’s good friends Johan and Benja Bemelen and Kevin and Becky Morales, along with the staffs at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center for Excellence and Brighton Hospice, for their outstanding love and care of our family’s leader.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, CO on February 25, 2025 at 10:00am followed by interment at Fort Logan Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation at 9:00am at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your favorite charity in Ray’s name.
