Richard D. Scott, 89, of Lakewood (Denver) Colorado passed away from complications during open heart surgery, on December 3, 2010.
Richard was born in 1921 in Soledad, California to Robert and Rose Scott of the Mission District. He attended Mission Grammar School and Gonzales High School graduating with the class of 1938. While at Gonzales, he played football for the Spartans.
In 1939, Richard enlisted in the Navy and volunteered for the submarine service, serving in the Pacific theater through the duration of World War II. At the end of the War, he was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer, Chief Electrician Mate.
While in the Navy, he met the love of his life Viola (Bobbie) E. Culver of Watsonville and they were married January 1, 1943. The have one son, Ronald of Lakewood, Colorado.
After the War, Richard went to work for Otis Elevator Company in Oakland, California. After Oakland, his career with Otis brought him to Stockton, California; Portland, Oregon and Boise, Idaho. He retired from Otis as regional manager in 1986, after more than 40 years in a variety of roles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bobbie, brother Stanley, and sister Peggy Lindstrand. He is survived by his son Ronald and grandchildren Kathryn and Daniel, all of Colorado
