Richard Lee Dean

May 23, 1935 — November 18, 2022

Richard Lee Dean of Aurora, CO, age 87, passed away on November 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on May 23, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Edith and Arthur Dean. He was the oldest of four children (Ruth Moreland, Dottie Cole & Bob Dean) and was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Moreland.

Richard was born & raised in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Glen Burnie High School. After graduating from High School, Richard enlisted and served in the US Army for 2 years. He later met his wife, Carol, and they were married on January 30, 1960. Together they had 2 daughters, Debbie & Patty.

Richard worked as a Store Manager in the food industry for Acme & Giant Foods which he later left to pursue an opportunity to work for United Airlines in 1967 at BWI Airport. In 1981 he accepted a job transfer with United Airlines that brought him to Denver, Colorado working at Denver International Airport (DIA) where he continued to work and live until he retired in 1998.

Richard loved to attend church on Sunday's (before Covid restrictions came along), golfing with friends & family, watching the Denver Broncos Football & the Rockies Baseball. He loved to travel to Hawaii every year until his health no longer allowed him to. He enjoyed sitting outside, for countless hours in the spring/summer, on his patio listening to his radio & working his crossword book. He also loved his yard & could never have enough flowers. His favorite card game was Phase 10 and he would never turn down an opportunity to play with his family. His most prized possession was his family. He truly was a wonderful Christian family man who loved always being surrounded by his wife, daughters, grandsons (granddaughters) & great grandchildren. Richard had no strangers, everyone he met loved him & thought he was such a nice person. Even when he was sick, in the hospital, he was sure to tell all the nurses how much he appreciated them for the great care they were giving him. He never complained during his last 2 months of in & out of the hospital & rehab. His only wish he had was to be able to go home and the evening of the day he came home, he passed away surrounded by his family.

Richard is survived by his wife of 62 Years, Carol Dean; his children, Deb (Smith) and Patty Dean; grandchildren, Josh Johnson (Natalie), Jared Johnson, Devin Smith (Gina) and Cody Shaw; great grandchildren, Greyson Smith, Blaine Smith and Levi Johnson whom they all lovingly call & know him as their Pop-Pop!!

Richard, Dad, Pop-Pop will be greatly missed by us all but we do find comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and in a better place! We will love you always & forever!

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Richard's name to The Denver Hospice, National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
