RICHARD GEORGE JONES
Richard Jones, 90, died peacefully on March 28, 2018. Rich was born on June 19, 1927 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the son of George and Louise Jones. He spent his childhood living in Princeton, Kingston and Rocky Hill.
He graduated high school in 1944 and was too young to be drafted, so worked as a bookkeeper in a bank in Princeton to save for college. Rich attended Temple University for one year and then was drafted. World War II had ended so he served for a year, including 7 months in Osaka, Japan with the 25th Division of the Army.
After his discharge, Rich visited his brother Bob in Denver and decided to go to school at the University of Denver. He majored in accounting and received a B.S. in Business Administration in 1949. After graduation he worked as an auditor and accountant at Firestone Rubber Co and Montgomery Ward. In 1961 he started work at Martin Marietta and remained there until his retirement in 1987.
Rich met Ruth Paustian in December 1947 at Highland Park Presbyterian Church and were married in 1949 They were very active in their Highland Park Church, and then Bear Creek Presbyterian Church. In recent years they began attending Southern Gables Church and enjoyed worshiping there. Rich and Ruth raised 3 children, Gary, David and Diane. Rich was active as a Boy Scout Leader for his sons.
After retirement Rich and Ruth did extensive traveling in the United States and throughout the world. They owned a motor home and were charter members of the Winnebago/Itasca/Travel Club. Rich served as president of the Colorado Chapter of WIT and the local Rocky Mountain Winnies Club. He was also a member of MARS, the Martin Marietta retirees organization.
Rich and Ruth moved into a patio home community next door to their son Gary and has enjoyed the neighborhood activities.
Richard is survived by his wife Ruth: three children – Gary Jones, David Jones and Diane Oakley. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
