Richard Eldon "Dick" Klatt

Richard "Dick" Eldon Klatt went to his heavenly home on April 8, 2018 in Monument, CO at the age of 79. Dick was born on September 18,1938 in Milwaukee, WI to Charles and Irene Klatt (deceased).

He also joins his first wife, Carolyn Klatt (nee Schlicht), who preceded him in death on March 8, 2005. Together they had five children and were married for nearly 45 years.

Dick is survived by his current wife, Susan Lewis Klatt who he married on 7/28/2006 and his children Deborah Tucker (Wayne); Richard (Paula); Barbara Rittenhouse (Andy); Daniel (Corrie); and Kimberly Renquest (David). He is also survived by his step-children, Emilie Meyer (Greg); Andy Lewis (Charli); Nathan Lewis (Katie) and Maggie Lewis. He has five grandchildren, Zachary (Emmalynn), Tyler and Mackenzie Klatt, Nathaniel Renquest and John Rittenhouse. He also has six step-grandchildren, Tonya Mack (Justin); Branch and Ruthie Meyer; Asher and Effie Lewis and Ruby Lewis. He also has four great grandchildren, Makayla and Elayna Klatt and Carson and Gemma Mack.

Dick and Carrie first met at Milwaukee Lutheran High School and were married on August 20, 1960, three months after earning their teaching degrees from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL. Upon graduating from CTC with a B.S. in Education, his first teaching position was at Pilgrim Lutheran School in Chicago, IL. In August of 1962, he was installed as a teacher/coach at Milwaukee Lutheran HS where he taught religion. He earned his M.S. in Administration/Secondary from Concordia River Forest in August of 1971. His first principalship was in 1974 at Lutheran H.S. East in Cleveland, OH where he stayed for three years. He then was called to serve as principal at Denver Lutheran H.S. from 1977 to 1986 before accepting a call to Lutheran H.S. of Orange County. In 1992 Kansas City Lutheran H.S. called him to be their principal, where he stayed until 1998. He completed his last two years of ministry at the Lutheran High School in Salt Lake City, before retiring to Monument, Colorado.

Dick enjoyed watching many sporting activities, from college basketball to the NFL. He however had a passion for baseball which he coached throughout his many years as a teacher and principal. He loved going to Rockies games with his daughters. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, most recently Trinity Lutheran Church of Franktown. He loved his Corvettes, his cowboy boots and belt buckles and he was known for his signature flat top. He enjoyed traveling with Sue and dog sitting for friends and family and could be seen walking daily throughout the neighborhood with his "white fluffy dog, Kodi".

The funeral is scheduled for April 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with the viewing commencing at 10:15 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2100 Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80214. Reception to follow in the Commons area. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick's life. Rockies or Lutheran High School attire optional. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran High School, 11249 Newlin Gulch Blvd, Parker, Colorado 80134.
