Richard Murray

June 21, 1943 — March 23, 2022

MURRAY, (Ret) Tsgt Richard L, passed away March 23, 2022 in Aurora, CO, at the age of 78. He is survived by his spouse of 48 years, Susan; daughter Dedra (Steve) Edwards of Jay, OK, sons Brian (Cornelia) of Germany, R. William (Jackie) of Aurora, CO; sister Dian Anderson of Dayton, OH; brother Larry (Gloria) of The Villages, FL; sisters-in-law Karen O'Toole , Peggy (John), brothers-in-law Bob Greene of Nixa, MI; Bobby (Karen) Orman of Columbus, IN; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death brothers-in-law James Anderson and Albert O'Toole and sister-in-law Nancy Greene. There are also some children that although not his by blood, were his just the same; J. Kullo Sam of Chandler, AZ, Aaron Herrin of Aurora, Stefani Robin of Littleton and "his girls" Patricia Hampton and Sarah Pace, both of Silt.
He was born in McComb, IL to the late Gladys and Martin Murray on June 21, 1943. When he was very young, the family moved to Wichita, KS where he remained until joining the U.S. Navy at 17. He was stationed on the USS Bon Homme Richard, commonly known as the Bonnie Dick. When his tour was up, he returned to Wichita where he enlisted in the Air National Guard. When his unit was activated to go to Korea, he remained in the Air Force until his retirement in September of 1987. After retirement, he held various jobs; the last being a restaurant manager for 10 years until he once again retired in July of 2010.
Richard had a zest for life and was at heart, a practical joker. He loved nothing more than pulling pranks, as various family and life long friend, Susie DeMoss can attest to. He loved to "stir the pot" at gatherings, and then sit back the whole time laughing. It took weeks sometimes for someone to figure out that he was the culprit. During his last months, he enjoyed going for short walks, visiting with whoever happened to be out, whether he knew them or not; doting on his dogs, watching out the window or sitting on the front porch and going for car rides.
His favorite time was waiting for William to come home from work. He knew William would share what ever he'd brought home to eat. They'd quietly talk for a few hours, then William would tuck him back into his bed.
There will be no services at this time; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
