On September 25, 2019, Richard Earl Statewright, Sr., departed this earthly home to rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Richard was born on June 14, 1941 to Clifton Statewright and Lela May Yates (both deceased) in Clarendon, Arkansas. He was one of seven children, having four brothers and two sisters, who have all preceded him in death.
Richard grew up in Clarendon where he graduate from Carver High School, where he played basketball beginning in the 9th grade. He grew up next door to Gloria, who later became his wife. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They were blessed with three children, Dennis Earl Statewright (who preceded him in death), Sheryl Statewright and Richard E. "Checko" Statewright, Jr. In 1984 Richard and Gloria moved their family from Clarendon, Arkansas to Denver, Colorado to begin a new life. Richard and Gloria later divorced but remained good friends until his passing.
Richard joined Heritage Christian Center, which later became The Potter's House, where he joined the Greeter's Ministry and became a Greeter. He enjoyed serving as a Greeter because he was such a people person and would greet everyone with a huge smile and a warm handshake.
Richard's favorite thing to do was go fishing. Whenever he would return to Clarendon for a visit, he would have to go fishing. He was a huge sports fan who enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball. Even though he enjoyed watching sports, he was also a big fan of coaching. He even coached his son "Checko's" peewee football team.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and his son Dennis Earl Statewright. He leaves to cherish his memory, his ex-wife and friend Gloria Statewright, son Richard Earl "Checko" Statewright (wife Tammi) and daughter, Sheryl Statewright. Richard was blessed with nine grandchildren, Melissa, Gloria, Dennis Jr., Kwanzaa, Jasmine, Jonathan, Jaylon, Tallan and Triniti; four great-grandchildren, Sariya, Alycia, Aryana and Shanya. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends and all the people whose lives he touched.
