Robert James Adams affectionately known as, Bob, Bobbert, Bo-Bear, and 'The PITA', passed on Monday, May 27, 2019.
He was born, August 11, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois to Maxine Pierce Adams. His family moved to Fullerton, Wisconsin in 1955 when he was four, where he attended elementary school until he was injured in 1963. At that time his family moved to San Antonio, Texas so Robert could receive the best care possible for his injury, which left him a quadriplegic.
In 1965, his family moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota and from there to Aurora, Colorado in 1967. He graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1970. After High School, he attended CU of Denver and Broadcasting School. Although, Robert had a melodious voice he was not able to pursue a career in broadcasting due to the mechanical challenges related to his injury.
In 1973, Bob began working at Stapleton Airport in the paging office where he became known as 'The Voice of Stapleton'. Bob became an employee of the City and County of Denver when they acquired the paging office at Stapleton in 1985. He worked the information booths at Stapleton Airport until it closed in February of 1995. Bob was an Information Ambassador at Denver International Airport(DIA) until he transferred to Maintenance Control.
While employed by The City and County of Denver he received the Outstanding City Employee with a Disability for the Year 1989 Award. Bob retired on January 1, 2007. Not one to sit at home, he began working for Argus in 2008 at various locations, such as the Pepsi Center, DU Event Center and his favorite, The Inverness Hotel in DTC, 'babysitting the Denver Broncos'. He continued his employment with Argus until August of 2013.
Robert was passionate about HIS Denver Broncos, they had a love/hate relationship. He enjoyed all sports and took great pleasure in watching baseball and golf with his mom. Bob loved traveling and attending the theatre and concerts. His favorite color was purple. He had a kind heart, he loved animals, and animals loved him. He often said, "He loved animals more than some people." He fed a host of wildlife, known as 'Peskies' to others. He had a real affinity for a crow he named 'Blackie'.
Robert is survived, by the two women he loved the most. His mom, Maxine Yanke and the love of his life, GeraLine Drew. Three sisters, Kathy (Danny) Fancher, Susan (Chris) Rodgers and Beverly (Ambrose) Swiontek. Five brothers, William (Telissa) Adams, Richard (Sue) Yanke, Jr., Michael (Audrey) Yanke, Kenneth (Diana) Yanke, and Herbert Yanke. Daughter, Lauren L. (Lou) Scalmanini. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Dad, Richard Yanke, Sr., Sister, Karen Brewster and her husband, Harley, brother, Russell Adams and GeraLine's Grandson, Kanyon Reynolds.
Robert was a resilient soul and lived his life with no regrets. He will be missed by all.
