Born 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John C. & Hazel (Marriott) Burris. He passed away March 9, 2010 in Aurora, Colorado. Robert was a graduate of U. of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943-46, 1949-67. In WWII, he was a B-29 navigator on 34 combat missions in the Pacific Theater. During the Korean War, Robert flew 100 combat missions as a F-80 pilot. He was awarded 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 7 air medals. He led the last flight of fighter jets from Lowry AFB in 1965. In 1967 he retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Col. Following his military service he was the Chief pilot with NCAR, Boulder, 1969-1986.
Robert was married to Miriam Buzzell Davis in 1953, Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his children, Anne, Robert Jr., John "Randy"; daughter-in-law, Catherine Jarvis; grandchildren, Beau, Adrienne, Anna & Robert F. Burris, Aaron, Sam & David Burris-DeBoskey; dear family friend Masako Furuiye. He was preceded in death by his son, Joel S. and brothers, John C. and James C.
Robert volunteered at the Wings over Rockies Museum, was an avid golfer & sportsman, a member of the F-86 Sabre Pilots' Assn., Daedalians.
