Robert Rey Castillo

January 6, 1934 — September 7, 2021

Robert Rey Castillo was born January 6, 1934 in Mercedes, Texas to Manuel and Manuela Castillo. He was the sixth of thirteen children.

He endured the fields for much of his young life, leaving shortly before the UFW was created. He left school in the fifth grade and picked cotton, sugar beets, and other produce. He traveled throughout the south with his parents and siblings and worked alongside them each day. This experience made him the man we all love and respect. He didn't tolerate laziness and he instilled his work ethic in his family.

Robert met Martha (Anglada) when they were 18, they quickly fell in love and a year later they were married (on July 21, 1953). Together they moved to Auraria Denver, on 9th St, and started a family. When the city of Denver decided to build the college campus in Auraria all of the residents in the area, including Robert and Martha's family, were displaced. They decided to relocate their family a little further west to Raleigh St. where they lived together for 56 years.

Robert was a great provider, he raised a large, beautiful family. He witnessed his children and grandchildren grow and celebrated and beamed in their successes. He was the father figure for several of his grand and great-grandchildren and many friends.

Robert was the owner of Castillo Excavating, Inc. He had to overcome many hardships as a Latino business owner in the 1970's. Despite all of these hardships Robert built a successful company that helped him provide for his entire family and those around him. He lived his passion of Stock Car racing by serving on the pit crew of his best friend. He was a fixer of all things, a builder, a helper, a teacher, and the best father and grandfather ever created. He will be missed beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry Anglada Castillo, grandson Jerry Bocky Castillo, brothers Joe (Pepe) Castillo, Ramon Castillo and Guadalupe Castillo. He is survived by wife Martha Castillo, siblings Ignacio Castillo (Francisca), Paul Castillo (Mary), Nick Castillo, James Castillo (Esther), Rose Hernandez, Francis Strickland, Theresa Moreno, Aurora Moreno, Mardi Williams (Ray); sisters-in-law: Besse Castillo (Guadalupe), Virginia Castillo (Joe); children: Debra Tucker, Larry Castillo (Lorraine), Loretta Castillo-Molet (Martin), Kimberly Martinez (Steve), De'Ann Fitzpatrick (Sheldon); grandchildren Kara Lopez, Steve Martinez, Damara Dickerson (Gary), Cheasare Avila, Sean Martinez (Valerie), Ariel Avila (Sara), Ashley Hanon (Michael), Chelsea Mares (Stephone), Lauren Manriquez-Luna (Ismael), Brea Correa (Mikey), Haleigh Manriquez-Luna (Luis), Mason Castillo, Canaan Fitzpatrick, Marquis Fitzpatrick (Destany), Ivana Molet (Kevin). Also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
