Robert E. Lutes, Sr. was born in Fremont, Nebraska on October 12, 1921. He was the youngest of five children of Mabel and Luther Lutes. Rachel and Marge were his older sisters and Leon (Bud) and Richard his older brothers. Robert, or Bob, as his friends and family like to call him, did most of his growing up in Norfolk, Nebraska, but left for Colorado soon after high school.
After moving to Colorado, Bob found a job at General Iron Works in Englewood, Colorado. It was here that he met his future wife Eleanor Dunning. They were married on October 11, 1942, at the Englewood Methodist Church. Because he was to be married one day before his 21st birthday, it might have caused a problem with getting the license without a parent signature, but Bob convinced the clerk that one day didn't make that much of a difference and he got the license.
Soon after the wedding, Bob left for basic training in the Army Air Corps. After his training, he was shipped to Foggia, Italy, where he spent a year making parts for the aircraft that flew in and out of the Foggia airfield.
After World War II ended, Bob began his college education at the University of Denver from which he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business. He then worked for B.F. Goodrich until he went into business for himself. He continued to be self-employed until his retirement.
In 1949, a daughter, Linda, was born to Bob and Eleanor, and in 1951, Robert, Jr., arrived. The family lived on King St. in Denver for 12 years until they built a house where Bob and Eleanor lived for the next 40 years.
During the many years Bob and Eleanor were married they were able to travel both in and out of the United States. Their companions on their trips were often friends and Bob's brother Dick and his wife, Kathryn.
Although Bob, Jr. has remained single, Linda is married and has four children. One of her children is married and has a son Calvin, whom his great grandfather loved very much.
