Robert Junior Gay

August 11, 1930 — July 24, 2021

Bob was born in Central City, Nebraska to Francis and Vera Gay on August 11, 1930. He moved to Columbus, Nebraska as a child. Later, he spent his high school summers working on a crew for Central Electric and Gas Company, where he met his future wife Millie who also worked in the office. They married on October 3rd , 1950.

He was drafted into the United State Army on January 22nd, 1952 and trained at Fort Ord in California. After his training, he served for two years in Munich, Germany. After returning from service, he was superintendent and engineer for Central Electric and Gas Co. in Columbus, Nebraska; He later became involved with the practice of Cathodic Protection Department, laying the foundation for the remainder of his career. While still in Nebraska, Bob and Millie welcomed their three children: Jeff, Barb, and Kim.

In 1976, Bob, Millie, Barb, and Kim moved to Aurora, Colorado. There, he started his own company, J Bar K Corrosion Company. He worked several jobs installing water systems around the Denver Metro area, Grand County, Colorado, and beyond. Many of his jobs are still in operation today, supplying countless people in the region with safe water systems. He would run J Bar K with Millie until he retired at age 80.

Shortly after arriving in Aurora, he also joined Christ the Savior Lutheran Church and was a member for 45 years. He always enjoyed, and rarely missed, Bible Study at the church, and considered the congregation as an extension of his family. When not working, studying, or spending time with his family, he frequently enjoyed golf with his three closest friends. They continued this practice as often as they could until old age prevented them from doing so.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years: Millie, sister-in-law Marlene, children: Jeff, Barb, Kim, son-in-law Gary, six grandchildren: Emily, Colin, Kelsey, Travis, Sydney, and Logan, two great-grandchildren: Eli and Stella, niece Linda, and nephews Tom and Mike. He is preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Vera, mother-in-law Edna, brother Calvin, sister-in-law Shirley, brother-in-law Jerry, and grandchild Zoe.

Bob's final resting place will be Columbus Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska.
