Robert D. Hockenbury, 67, of Denver, Colorado
Robert D. Hockenbury, 67, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on February 13, 2023. Robert died from severe COPD that was caused by 40 years of heavy cigarette smoking.
Robert was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 7, 1955 to Kenneth and Janet Hockenbury. He attended Floyd and Hunt grade schools, North Junior and graduated from North High School in 1974. He went on to earn an undergraduate Business Degree from Iowa State University in 1980 and his Masters in Accountancy and Taxation from the University of Houston in 1984.
In 1980, he moved to Houston, Texas. His first professional position was as a tax accountant for Getty Oil Company in Houston. Later, he went on to work at the Houston office of Arthur Young and Company, a member of the big eight accounting firms.
While working towards his degree at the University of Houston, Robert began teaching accounting courses at the university on a part time basis. This was where he found his true passion.
In 1987, Robert moved to Denver to become part of the faculty at the Business School at the University of Colorado in downtown Denver. He became a Senior Instructor teaching a full time load for 27 years. He retired in 2014.
In 2007, Robert married Baigal Delgerdorj. Baigal is a proud immigrant from Mongolia with many interesting customs and foods that she shared with her American husband. They enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the US during his summer breaks from teaching college. They both learned much about the history and beauty of Baigal's new country of citizenship.
He is survived by his loving wife, his sister and two brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes he was cremated and his ashes scattered in a private service.
