Robert Wayne Luna, Sr. (Bob) was born July 31, 1937 as the third child in a family of nine and the eldest son of Maclovio Luna, born in Viacitos, NM and Helen (Chacon) Luna, born in Kingman, AZ.
Robert departed this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the age of 84 in Aurora, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, eldest son, Robert W. Luna, Jr., older sister Dolores Mora, and younger brother, William J. Luna. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Angela Luna, three children, Maureena Aragon (Anthony), Stanley Luna (Judy) and LauraBeth Fuller (Alan); 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters Florence Archuleta, Cathy Martinez, Cynthia Albo and Linda Galasso, as well as brothers Richard Luna and Louis Quintane.
Bob was a proud Denver native with fond memories of his childhood growing up in his Globeville neighborhood, attending parochial school and serving as an alter boy at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Robert ambitiously joined the United States Marine Corp. at the young age of 15. He served for 18 months before the military discovered his age and discharged him. When he was old enough he returned to the Marine Corp. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Angela Martinez, while on leave. When he returned to base at Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA they continued to communicate and exchange letters. The next time he was on leave he returned to Denver again and proposed to her. They were married Christmas Day 1955. He returned to base in San Francisco with his bride and the young couple began their new life together. Soon they were expecting their first born child as they enjoyed life in California.
After his military service Bob enjoyed many vocations throughout his lifetime. He was full of colorful stories of his time as a cab driver in the late 60's, working at the Denver Archivists Office and then his general contractor business with his best Buddy and partner, Robert Ewing.
However, he was most proud of his work as a Chief Building Inspector on concourse C during the construction of Denver International Airport. A job he loved!
Bob and Angela made their home in Denver, Colorado for the majority of their marriage but once they became empty nesters they also resided in Santa Barbara, CA and Albuquerque, NM for a time but eventually returned to Colorado to be near family.
They loved to travel, whether it be road-trips to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, the California coast, or a day at the casinos in nearby Central City. But their favorite form of travel was taking cruises. They were especially excited to tell of their trip through the Panama Canal!
Bob's presence would light up a room! (You usually heard him before you saw him!) He had a wonderful sense of humor and a penchant for being an amazing story teller. He made friends wherever he went and had a nickname for almost everyone. His laugh was boisterous and infectious. His heart was big. He loved taking photos and sharing them. It wasn't uncommon for him to give away enlargements he had taken of you at a previous event. He always had gifts for people, whether it was bats, balls and gloves for the grandkids, stuffed animals, coats, clocks-you never knew what you were going to get! Bob's personality was bigger than life and he knew how to live it! He will be forever loved and always missed.
