Robert Lee Maxey

June 1, 1951 — December 27, 2017

Robert Lee Maxey was born on June 1, 1951, to the late Mr. Charles Edward Maxey, Sr. and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Alexandria Reed Maxey in Allen Farm, Texas. Robert had a great childhood playing and working with his brothers and sisters on the farm where he was raised. He often spoke of his childhood home being the Sunday gathering place after church where all the neighborhood kids gathered to play sports, and enjoy his dad's BBQ.
Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and attended church at Rock West Baptist Church in Allen Farm, Texas. He graduated from Navasota High School in 1970 and excelled as a student athlete during his high school years. Sports was a big part of Robert's life and basketball was his favorite sport. He was always ready to take on anyone who was willing to play. He was on Wagner Equipment Company's basketball team for the City of Aurora Parks and Recreation and they won the championship one year and he was really proud of that.
In 1972, Robert was drafted in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Army for eight years. He was stationed at Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and Pinder Barracks in Zirndorf, Germany.
Robert met the love of his life, Martha, in 1980, and they were married on April 25, 1983 in Denver, Colorado. He adopted as his own, Martha's children, Jami and Jeffrey and grandson, Dyllan. He enjoyed working in the yard and being at home with his family.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, Robert came to Denver and worked for Mercy Medical Center as a custodian for 7 years; Wagner Equipment Company as a warehouseman and shipper and receiver for 15 years; and the City of Aurora as a mail courier for 8 years.
In 2000, Robert recommitted his life to the Lord and loved attending church and serving others. He was involved in many different ministries in the church.
Robert loved to laugh and have a good time. He had an infectious laugh, and beautiful smile that touched everyone he met. He loved being silly with the grandkids, who lovingly called him Papa.
Robert departed this life on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the age of 66 in Aurora, Colorado. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Maxey, Five Brothers, Charles Edward Maxey Jr., John Albert Maxey, Donald Ray Maxey, David Lee Maxey and Jimmy Ray Maxey and sister Rosie Mae Curley.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Martha (Marty) Maxey, his daughter Jami Vialpando and husband Darin of Strasburg, CO, his son Jeffrey Maxey and wife Robin of Bennett, CO, and son (grandson) Dyllan Maxey of Bennett, CO, sister Charlie Mae Griffin of Houston, Texas, grandsons, Josh, Isaiah, and Joey Vialpando of Northglenn, CO, Carsyn Vialpando of Strasburg, CO, granddaughters Megan Bragg and husband David of Federal Heights, CO, Zoey Lynch of Aurora, CO, Olivia Vialpando of Strasburg, CO, and Hannah Maxey of Northglenn, CO, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
