Robert J. Sangster

January 31, 1942 — March 6, 2022

Robert "Bob" James Sangster, 80, passed away at his home in Englewood, CO surrounded by family. He lost his battle with myelofibrosis on the evening on March 6, 2022. He was born in Inglewood, CA to Donald Sangster and Madeline Young on January 31, 1942. After graduating high school, he attended junior college to play football and spent as much time possible at the beach with a volleyball in hand.

A few years later Bob enlisted in the Army, serving as Military Police for almost 3 years. His service primary took him to Esmeralda, Ethiopia and then to Arlington, VA before being honorably discharged.

Bob moved to Colorado in the mid 70's with his first wife whom he shares two children with, Kyle (44) and Kimberly (40). He then began working with Public Service of Colorado and continued with them until he retired 25+ years later. This career took him all over this great state, into some of the smallest towns and remotest areas. Some would say he knew more of the history of Colorado than the professionals themselves. During this time, he met Sue Guyer, his wife for the past 27 years. Her children, Scott (50), Carrie (54) and Tammy (55) and their children in Iowa became a part of the family. Together these two ventured on many road trips throughout the US visiting family/friends, oceans/mountains and golf courses. Altogether, he played in 33 of the 50 states. They loved to discover diners off the beaten path with the best homemade food and salt-of-the-earth people. They traveled with their beloved dogs and made friends everywhere they went.

After retiring from Public Service of Colorado, Bob joined the Masons at the Weston Lodge in Littleton. He was a quick study and worked his way up to Worshipful Master of this lodge. He continued to serve the Masons for over 11 years with a passion in mentoring new members. He always had a welcoming, friendly face and a story to share, which kept them coming back every Monday to listen and learn.

Bob loved music, especially jazz. He was an avid record collector and as technology advanced, he would make CDs to share with anyone remotely interested in the genre. Jazz was always playing from the little radio at the dining room table where Bob could be found reading the newspaper or playing chess, his other passion. He would welcome a chess game at any time, but don't expect to beat him!

He is survived by his former wife and their two children and one grandchild, his wife Sue and her 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by multiple nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in the name of Bob Sangster to further support the community that supported him:
