Robert Keith Thyfault was born on a farm in Zurich, Kansas on July 14, 1925 to Med and Mini Thyfault. His family moved to Denver, Colorado when he was 9-years-old. He attended Lake Junior High School and St. Dominic's Catholic School in north Denver. At age 17, he had only attended high school for two weeks when he joined the Navy to serve during World War II and served for four years on the Pacific front. After the war he returned home and worked for the Colorado Southern/Burlington Northern Railroad as a yard switchman for the next 40 years. He married Ruth Idell Root in July 1947 and settled in west Denver where they raised their family. Keith was a devout catholic and family man. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, all well into his late 70's. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2227 and kept busy in his retirement playing softball, traveling and volunteering for Easter Seals. He loved to dance with the all the ladies and was known for his great sayings. Keith and Ruth were married for 64 years, until Ruth's passing in May 2011. He was called home to the Lord on June 20, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and joins his family and friends that have gone before. Keith was also preceded in death by his parents, older sister Mary, younger brothers Gale and Babe, granddaughter Summer and many other family and friends. He will be missed and remembered fondly by those who loved him. He is survived by his five children: Mariruth (aka Marty) Lorraine, Keith D., Michelle Manchego, Scott C., and Tracey (Greg) Gonzales; six grandchildren: Rochelle, Dana, Amber, Cory, Gregory and Nathon; 8.5 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Services will include a viewing at 6:00pm and Rosary at 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 695 Julian Street, Denver, CO 80204. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, July, 11, 2019, also at Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church, followed by interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 12:00pm, Stage A, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, CO 80236.
