AURORA, CO - Robert E. Wilson, Jr., 82
died June 15, after a short illness. He was the husband of Gertrude M. (Atkinson) for 62 years.
Born in Falmouth, Mr. Wilson graduated from Lawrence High School in 1939, was a Captain in the Air Force in WWII, and earned a B.S. degree in Architecture from MIT. He worked as an Architect for several Cape Cod firms before starting his own firm in 1964. In 1975 the firm became known as Wilson/Giampietro Architects, from which he retired in 1988. during his career, he designed commercial buildings, churches, schools and residences on the Cape including the current Falmouth Town Hall.
Mr. Wilson participated in many organizations in Falmouth, including the Rotary Club, President of the VNA, the Falmouth Historical Society and served as a Commissioner of the Barnstable County Fair.
At 16, he obtained a private pilot's license which he held until he retired. He was a model ship builder and his model of the Corwith Cramer is on display at the Sea Education Center in Woods Hole.
In 1988 he Moved to Siloam Springs, AR and in 1993 to Aurora, CO. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Beth Wilson, of Aurora, a son, Grant Wilson and wife Marcia, grandchildren, Taylor and Samuel, of Pittsburgh, a brother, Richard Wilson of Tulsa, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Falmouth VNA, 67 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth, MA 02540.
