Roger Allen Anderson

Roger Allen Anderson, 85, of Denver, died peacefully on August 29, 2019. He was born, November 10, 1933, in Fargo, North Dakota to the late Gertrude and Cornelius Anderson. He graduated from Shanley High School in 1952 where he played football and ran track. He moved to Colorado to attend the University of Northern Colorado, where he received his BA and MA degrees in Art Education.

Before he married Mary June on June 6, 1959, Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army as Corporal during the Korean War from 1953-1955 and was honorably discharged with full honors.

Roger was an Elementary School Art Teacher for 29 years, last serving at Columbine Hills Elementary before he retired in 1986. He served his students with many extracurricular art activities including marionette shows and pottery classes. He worked summer months for Jefferson County Schools in the 60's and 70's, leading the Sports & Games Department.

Roger was a hard worker taking on various additional jobs to support his family so his wife "Junie" could stay home with the kids. After retirement, Roger worked security at the media gate for the Colorado Rockies from 1993 to 2003.

Roger and Junie (who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2007) loved to spend summer months together at their cabin in Durango, Colorado. Roger built an addition to the cabin, doing most of the work himself.

In 2016, Roger moved from his beloved Lakewood home of 47 years to Sunrise at Pinehurst Assisted Living, continuing to serve the Lord, blessing numerous residents with his drawings. Roger served the Catholic Church teaching CCD classes and ushering church services.

Roger is survived by his sister, Nancy Schaan (Dennis); five children, David Anderson, Daniel Anderson (Connie), Dawn Anderson (Jim Brown), Darci Steiner (Mark), and DaNia Mortimer (Matthew); and ten grandchildren, Nicholas (Stephanie), Ryan and Zachary Anderson, Christina and John Allen Adamoli, Jennifer Boyer (Stephen), Nicole Steiner, and Marlowe, McKenna, and Mark Mortimer.
