Roger David Wimmer, 69, of Lakewood, Colorado died on October 13, 2018. Roger was born in Downers Grove, Illinois on July 1, 1949 to parents, Anthony and Lorraine.
Roger graduated from Downers Grove North in 1967 & was his high schools class president. For the past 20 years his fellow classmates looked forward to his weekly Friday class email.
Roger received his Ph.D. in mass media research from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He completed his Ph.D. in a record 18 months, an accomplishment he was proud of the rest of his life. His background includes Sales rep at KLSS/KSMN in Mason City, Iowa, Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi, Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, Manager of Research for Cox Broadcasting in Atlanta, GA, and adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
Prior to founding Wimmer Research, based in Lakewood, Colorado, Roger was co-founder of Wimmer-Hudson Research & Development, President/CEO/Co-founder of The Eagle Group, President/General Partner/Co-founder of Paragon Research, and President of Surrey Research.
In the radio industry, Roger conducted thousands of research studies for virtually all types of radio formats, and he also had extensive experience in all areas of research for the TV and cable TV industries, including TV stations, networks, and programming production. He developed several research approaches to test local news content, on-air talent, and promotional activities. In addition, Roger had several years of experience in non-media research, working with a variety of consumer products companies.
Roger was the senior author of Mass Media Research: An Introduction, 10th Edition, the leading textbook in media research in the world since 1982. The text is used in colleges, universities, armed forces, several governments, and many other venues throughout the world, with editions in several languages.
In 1992, Roger bought a Harley Davidson motorcycle and started going to Sturgis, SD. in '93 for the motorcycle rally. He went every year from '93 until 2018 and did not miss one. After riding for a while, he would trade his Harley in for a new Bourget motorcycle custom made just for him. It was painted with the American flag and on special occasions he would wear an American flag leather jacket when he rode.
Roger is survived by his older brother Carl, his twin brother Rick, his sons Shad and Jeremy, his wife Darnell and his stepson Leigh.
