Hankel, Roger of Aurora, CO - age 67, passed away Friday August 29, 2008
with his family by his side, after a brief and unexpected illness.
Born on September 15, 1940 to Robert and Marjorie Hankel, Roger grew up
and lived most of his life in Madison, WI. In his younger days, besides
being an avid swimmer, he continually made headlines in the sports pages
with his high scores in bowling. He served his country in the Army for
6 years (2 yrs active and 4 yrs reserve). On June 1st, 1968, married his
longtime girlfriend Vaneta Irene Beine. He was employed by Vogel Brothers
Building Co. from 1960 until his retirement in 1995 and is a member of the
Laborer's International Union of North America, Local 464. He and his wife
Vaneta, moved to Aurora, CO in Spring of 2004 to be near their daughter,
Kimberly. Roger loved the outdoors/gardening and was a caretaker
of many furry and feathered friends. His heart of gold always looked out
for his friends and neighbors; there is not a person on this earth that
he would not talk to.
Roger is survived by his wife Vaneta; son Scott (Julie) Hankel of Sunland,
CA; daughter Kimberly (Dan) Stanecki of Aurora, CO; his sister Marian
(Robert) Giese of Madison, WI; and sister-in-law Janet (Harvey) Demke of
Bismarck, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marjorie
Hankel; and his uncle Reginald Salter, for whom he greatly admired.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:00am
at Midvale Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, with Pastor Bruce

Roger's family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses
in the ER and ICU at the Aurora South Medical Center in
Aurora, Colorado for all the support they provided.
Roger will be deeply missed and never forgotten by his family.
